Glass Chains (borosilicate) - 4 week session
6 pm - 8:30 pm
Instructor: Nancy Snihur
Fee: $325.00 (plus HST)
Glass chains are fun, strong, lightweight and unlikely to break.
This introductory workshop is targeted towards students who are either completely new to flameworking glass or students with soft glass experience who want to try something new and different.
Over the 4-week session, this course will cover the basic techniques in simple chain making using clear borosilicate glass. In addition, the course will touch on many options to modify the shape, size & colour of the basic link to produce one-of-kind creations.
At the end of the session, students should be independently able to finish a basic glass chain necklace (approximately 26” - 28” length) and with practice have the skills to create a wide variety of interesting glass chains.
Please wear clothing made of natural fibres such as cotton, preferably long sleeves, pants and closed toed shoes. Long hair should be tied back.
All tools and supplies including glass are provided. If you have them, bring along your eye protection, favourite marver, masher and tweezers. Also a shoebox size cardboard box or plastic tote will be useful for your storage along with a pen/pencil & notebook.
Due to the nature of glass, students will have to return to pick up their finished pieces after they have been annealed.
