Have you ever wondered how to turn a piece of metal into a three dimensional object that is cherished for a lifetime and handed down for generations? Try your hand at making a soldered, textured ring from sterling silver!
No previous experience is required for this beginner level silversmithing class.
You will learn to accurately measure ring sizes, calculate the length of metal required and then prepare and cut the metal. Other skills you'll acquire are annealing and soldering using an oxygen-propane Gentec little torch, texturing metal with various hammers and punches, shaping a round ring using a ring mandrel, filing and sanding using hand files, needle files and sandpaper, as well as finishing and polishing with a flex-shaft motor using a range of attachments. The final step will be signing your work with a diamond bur!
Sterling silver wire to make one band is included with the class. Additional material to make matching stacking rings with different textures is available for purchase at the studio.
