Fundamentals of Colour Application (borosilicate) - 6 week session, 3 hours/week
Students will receive an in-depth introduction to coloured rods and gain an understanding of the boro colour palette and the intricacies of the material including the metals and ingredients that create the different hues and attributes of specific colours. We will also explore how certain colours behave and how to work them by adjusting the flame chemistry and working environment. Students will learn about mixing/blending colours, striking, cadmiums, transluscents, colour layering techniques, colour encasement and frit. This course will be taught making solid pieces. More experienced students may choose to practice their colour on hollow pieces. Previous boro experience is required. Tools and materials are provided for the class. Due to the nature of glass, students will have to return to pick up their finished pieces after they have been annealed.
